“The ban on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel autos will kick in from Tuesday because the air high quality has deteriorated within the extreme class. We’re monitoring the scenario together with the Atmosphere division. For now, the ban is prone to be in place until Friday. If the air high quality improves, the ban might be lifted earlier than Friday,” mentioned a senior Transport division official.

The nationwide capital’s 24-hour common air high quality index (AQI) stood at 434 at 4 pm on Monday, worsening from 371 on Sunday.

An AQI between 201 and 300 is taken into account ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘extreme’.
